Supplier: Corning
Description: Ampicillin is a Penicillin derivative that inhibits bacterial cell-wall synthesis by inactivating transpeptidases on the inner surface of the bacterial cell membrane.
Supplier: Thermo Scientific Chemicals
Description: An antibiotic used in the treatment of staphyloccoci bacteria that are resistant to penicillin G
Catalog Number: (76109-498)
Supplier: Bioss
Description: Penicillin refers to any member of beta-lactam antibiotics group. These agents are identified by a beta-lactam ring within their molecular structure. As the most widely used group of antibiotics available, beta-lactams are used for the treatment of bacterial infections usually caused by gram-positive organisms. Beta-lactam antibiotics are bactericidal, functioning to inhibit the synthesis of the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell walls. Bacterial penicillin-binding proteins and beta-lactamases constitute a large family of serine proteases that perform essential functions in the synthesis and maintenance of peptidoglycan cell wall. Notably, beta-lactamases cleave beta-lactams, therefore providing the bacteria with resistance to the antibiotic. Homologues of beta-lactamases occur in many species, including human, rat, cow, rabbit, pig, xenopus, zebrafish, and C. elegans. The human homologues, LACTB and LACTB2, are active-site-serine enzymes thought to be involved in metabolism.

Supplier: MP Biomedicals
Description: Semi-synthetic antibiotic related to penicillin. It is a benzyl penicillin derivative with substitution of a-carboxyl group n the benzyl side chain. The product interferes with final cell wall synthesis of susceptible bacteria. It is completely ionized in the blood. Carbencillin disodium is about 50% reversibly protein bound in plasma and its tissue distribution is similar to other penicillins.

Description: The beta lactam antibiotics (penicillins and cephalosporins) are the most frequently used antimicrobial agents. All of the beta lactams are structurally related through the presence of a core beta lactam ring. Bacterial resistance to beta lactams continues to increase, primarily due to the production of beta lactamases. Beta lactamases catalyze the hydrolysis of the beta lactam bond, which destroys antibacterial activity. Bacteria that produce TEM type or SHV type beta lactamases have point mutations in structural genes that have extended the substrate specificity of these beta lactamases. As a result, many of the beta lactamase producing Gram negative pathogens have become multidrug resistant.

Description: Ampicillin is a semi-synthetic derivative of penicillin, active as a broad-spectrum antibiotic.

Supplier: MP Biomedicals
Description: Cefoperazone sodium salt is used to study drug-protein binding, expression and inhibition of penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) during cell wall synthesis.
Catalog Number: (80050-988)
Supplier: MilliporeSigma
Description: CENTA™ β-lactamase substrate, is a chromogenic β-lactamase substrate for both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.

Supplier: MP Biomedicals
Description: Kanamycin sulfate is an antimicrobial agent effective against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasma. It binds to the 70S ribosomal subunit, inhibits translocation, and elicits miscoding. Cross-resistance occurs between kanamycin and neomycin, framycetin, and paromomycin, and partial cross-resistance has been reported between kanamycin and streptomycin. Aminoglycosidemodifying enzymes (acetyltransferase, phosphotransferase, nucleotidyltransferase) alter the antibiotic, preventing its interaction with ribosomes.
Supplier: Ambeed
Description: Dicloxacillin sodium salt monohydrate ≥98%

Catalog Number: (89363-070)
Supplier: Genetex
Description: Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a member of the class Mollicutes, meaning soft skin. Along with the other members of this class (Acholeplasma, Anaeroplasma, Asteroleplasma, Spiroplasma, and Ureaplasma) Mycoplasma are characterized by their unusually small genome as well as their complete lack of a bacterial cell wall. M. pneumoniae is a common cause of mild pneumonia and usually affects people younger than 40. Various studies suggest that it causes 15 to 50% of all pneumonia in adults and an even higher percentage of pneumonia in school aged children. Beta lactam antibiotics such as penicillin and cycloserine are ineffective as they act specifically to disrupt the cell wall so alternative antibiotic therapies such as the use of polyenes may be required. People at highest risk of mycoplasma pneumonia infection include those living or working in crowded areas such as schools and homeless shelters, although many people who become infected have no identifiable risk factor. M. pneumoniae can be detected via serology, PCR or in cell culture assays.
