Supplier: Enzo Life Sciences
Description: Blocks methyl esterification of geranylgeranylated proteins

Catalog Number: (76110-540)
Supplier: Bioss
Description: Protein geranylgeranyltransferase type I (GGTase-I) transfers a geranylgeranyl group to the cysteine residue of candidate proteins containing a C-terminal CAAX motif in which 'A' is an aliphatic amino acid and 'X' is leucine (summarized by Zhang et al., 1994 [PubMed 8106351]). The enzyme is composed of a 48-kD alpha subunit (FNTA; MIM 134635) and a 43-kD beta subunit, encoded by the PGGT1B gene. The FNTA gene encodes the alpha subunit for both GGTase-I and the related enzyme farnesyltransferase.[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2010]

Supplier: Prosci
Description: Prenyltransferases attach either a farnesyl group or a geranylgeranyl group in thioether linkage to the cysteine residue of protein's with a C-terminal CAAX box. CAAX geranylgeranyltransferase and CAAX farnesyltransferase are heterodimers that share the same alpha subunit but have different beta subunits. FNTA is the alpha subunit of these transferases.Prenyltransferases attach either a farnesyl group or a geranylgeranyl group in thioether linkage to the cysteine residue of protein's with a C-terminal CAAX box. CAAX geranylgeranyltransferase and CAAX farnesyltransferase are heterodimers that share the same alpha subunit but have different beta subunits. This gene encodes the alpha subunit of these transferases. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.

Catalog Number: (10105-448)
Supplier: Prosci
Description: Prenylated proteins contain one of two isoprenoid lipids, either the 15-carbon farnesyl or the 20-carbon geranylgeranyl, covalently attached to cysteine residues at or near their C terminus. PCYOX1 is capable of cleaving the thioether bond of prenylcysteines. The enzyme was isolated from bovine brain membranes and exhibits an apparent molecular mass of 63 kDa. This is a specific enzyme involved in prenylcysteine metabolism in mammalian cells, most likely comprising the final step in the degradation of prenylated proteins.

Supplier: MP Biomedicals
Description: N-Acetyl-L-cysteine is an acetylated amino acid with antioxidant and mucolytic properties for isolation of mycobacteria from sputum. As a mucolytic agent, N-Acetyl-L-cysteine serves to dissipate disulfide bonds across mucoproteins, loosening and clearing the viscosity of sputum.
N-Acetyl-L-cysteine acts as a free-radical scavenger and inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species which can damage cellular structures. It is critical for the production of Glutathione, a key antioxidant enzyme in the body. It has also been shown to induce apoptosis in vascular smooth muscle cells, indicating that these cells respond differently to changes in reduction-oxidation state than other tissues that are normally protected by the presence of antioxidants.
Antioxidant and mucolytic agent. Increases cellular pools of free radical scavengers. Reported to prevent apoptosis in neuronal cells but induce apoptosis in smooth muscle cells. Inhibits HIV replication. May serve as a substrate for microsomal glutathione transferase.
