Description: SCRN1 Antibody: SCRN1 was first identified as a cytosolic protein that is involved in the regulation of exocytosis from peritoneal mast cells. More recent studies have shown that SCRN1 expression is upregulated in gastric cancer cell lines and may possess epitopes that could function as tumor-associated antigens, potentially providing targets for cancer vaccines in the treatment of gastric cancers. Another report indicates that decreased expression of SCRN1 via RNAi expression resulted in significantly lower rates of cell growth in colorectal cancer cell lines, and increased SCRN1 expression in patients with colorectal cancer correlated with poor prognosis, suggesting that SCRN1 may also be involved in the regulation of cell growth and might be useful as a prognostic tool.

Description: CIAPIN1 (Cytokine induced apoptosis inhibitor 1) expression is dependent on growth factor stimulation. Overexpression confers resistance to apoptosis caused by IL3 deprivation. It may be required during hematopoiesis to mediate antiapoptotic effects of various cytokines. It also confers multidrug resistance in gastric cancer cells by upregulating the expression of MDR1 and MRP1.

Description: GPR120, a member of the rhodopsin family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), is a 377 amino acid protein which is expressed in the intestine. GPR120 is a receptor for unsaturated long-chain FFAs (free fatty acids). FFAs act as signaling molecules and are an important energy source. They also employ various physiological responses through their GPCRs. One such response occurs when dietary FFAs stimulate GPR120. This stimulation promotes the secretion of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) in vivo and in vitro. GLP-1 belongs to the class of molecules known as the incretins, which are associated with insulin secreted from the pancreas as a result of food intake. GLP-1 also inhibits glucagon and gastric acid secretion and gastric emptying. Consequently, the role of GPR120 in the secretion of GLP-1 is critical in the treatment of diabetes.

Description: Like human Gastrin-1 “Little Gastrin,” rat Gastrin-1 “Little Gastrin” contains 17 amino acids, but differs from human Gastrin by 3 amino acids at the C-terminus. Secretion of Gastrin is induced by food intake and causes the release of gastric acid. Synthesized by the G cells in the gastric mucosa, it is one of the major bioactive forms of Gastrin (the other bioactive form is Gastrin-34). Both Gastrin-17 and Gastrin-34 are carboxy-amidated and partially tyrosine sulfated. Binding of Gastrin to the CCK2/gastrin receptor requires carboxy-amidation, however sulfation is not necessary for binding to the receptor.

Description: The H2 subclass of histamine receptors mediates gastric acid secretion. Also appears to regulate gastrointestinal motility and intestinal secretion. Possible role in regulating cell growth and differentiation. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylyl cyclase and, through a separate G protein-dependent mechanism, the phosphoinositide/protein kinase (PKC) signaling pathway (By similarity).

Description: The Lewis histo-blood group system comprises a set of fucosylated glycosphingolipids that are synthesized by exocrine epithelial cells and circulate in body fluids. The glycosphingolipids function in embryogenesis, tissue differentiation, tumor metastasis, inflammation, and bacterial adhesion. They are secondarily absorbed to red blood cells giving rise to their Lewis phenotype. This gene is a member of the fucosyltransferase family, which catalyzes the addition of fucose to precursor polysaccharides in the last step of Lewis antigen biosynthesis. It encodes an enzyme with alpha(1,3)-fucosyltransferase and alpha(1,4)-fucosyltransferase activities. Lewis blood group antigens are carbohydrate moieties structurally integrated in mucous secretions. Lewis antigen system alterations have been described in gastric carcinoma and associated lesions. Anomalous expression of Lewis B antigen has been found in some non-secretory gastric carcinomas and colorectal cancers.

Description: Gastrokine 1, previously known as AMP-18, CA11, FOVEOLIN and TFIZ, was formally named “GKN1” by the HUGO gene Nomenclature Committee for its gastric-specific expression and its highly conserved presence in the gastric mucosa of many mammalian species. Gastrokine 1 is a novel protein that was firstly cloned by a Japanese group in 2000. GKN1 belongs to a family of genes encoding stomach-specific secreted proteins consisting of 3 known members: gastrokine 1 (GKN1), gastrokine 2 (GKN2) and gastrokine 3 (GKN3). GKN1 gene of about 6 kb was reported to be located at 2p13 and contains 6 exons. The GKN1 gene encodes a small protein of 185 amino acids containing a N-terminal signal peptide. It is a secreted protein with a molecular weight of approximately 18 kDa. GKN1 protein contains a BRICHOS domain, which is associated with dementia, respiratory distress and cancer.
