Supplier: MP Biomedicals
Description: Potassium Iodide is known as Potassium Salt of Hydriodic Acid [HI], available in white crystalline powder form. It is a mild reducing agent and can be easily oxidized to Iodine by powerful oxidizing agent like chlorine. With elemental iodine it forms I3 (tri iodide), the salts of tri iodide are highly water soluble.
Readily soluble in water.

Description: Thyroglobulin (Tg) is a glycoprotein homodimer produced predominantly by the thryroid gland. It acts as a substrate for the synthesis of thyroxine and triiodothyronine as well as the storage of the inactive forms of thyroid hormone and iodine. Thyroglobulin is secreted from the endoplasmic reticulum to its site of iodination, and subsequent thyroxine biosynthesis, in the follicular lumen. Mutations in this gene cause thyroid dyshormonogenesis, manifested as goiter, and are associated with moderate to severe congenital hypothyroidism. Polymorphisms in this gene are associated with susceptibility to autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITD) such as Graves disease and Hashimoto thryoiditis. [provided by RefSeq]

Description: Melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH), originally isolated from salmon pituitary glands, has also been found in the mammalian CNS. In lower vertebrates, salmon MCH alters pigmentation by inducing melanosome aggregation within melanocytes of teleost fish, whereas it causes melanosome dispersion in amphibians and reptiles. The biological role of MCH in higher vertebrates, however, is not yet fully understood, but it may function as a neuromodulator and hypophysiotropic agent in the secretion of α-MSH, ACTH, and GH.

Description: Allylglycine-containing peptides may be cleaved selectively at the amide bond between allylglycine and the subsequent amino acid with iodine. The lateral double bond allows selective modifications of a peptide e.g. via metathesis. Replacing cysteine residues by allylglycine allows to obtain carba-analogs of disulfide-bridged peptides.Educt for obtaining Fmoc-prenylglycine.

Description: This gene encodes a membrane-bound glycoprotein. The encoded protein acts as an enzyme and plays a central role in thyroid gland function. The protein functions in the iodination of tyrosine residues in thyroglobulin and phenoxy-ester formation between pairs of iodinated tyrosines to generate the thyroid hormones, thyroxine and triiodothyronine. Mutations in this gene are associated with several disorders of thyroid hormonogenesis, including congenital hypothyroidism, congenital goiter, and thyroid hormone organification defect IIA. Multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene, but the full-length nature of some variants has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq, May 2011].
