Chicken IgY can be collected from egg yolks; however, classical affinity chromatography methods such as protein A and protein G cannot be used to purify the IgY protein because of the high lipid content in the egg yolk.
- Purifies twice the amount of IgY and obtain 80 to 120 mg IgY per egg yolk at 85% to 95% purity
- Simple precipitation method purifies chicken IgY without affinity columns
- Eggs can be stored in buffer and purified at a later date
These kits contain a delipidation reagent that separates the proteins from the lipids and allows the proteins to be stored in the freezer for up to one year. The protocol allows for eggs to be used immediately out of the refrigerator or stored in buffer for later purification. The precipitation works without affinity columns, yet still delivers purity levels of 85–95%.
