Buffers and Accessories, Biotium
Supplier: Biotium
Commonly used buffers and accessories for microbiology, cell biology and microscopy.
- Ready-to-use buffers formulated for immunofluorescence staining of intracellular antigens for analysis by flow cytometry
- Fish gelatin blocking reagent for Western blotting and immunostaining
- Bovine serum albumin (BSA) is commonly used as a stabilizing agent for proteins and enzymes
- Dilute solutions of antibody
- Blocking agent to reduce non-specific binding
Fish gelatin is commonly used in blocking solutions to minimize background noise in immunodetection procedures such as Western blotting and immunostaining. Fish gelatin can be used in blocking buffers to block non-specific binding sites on positively charged nylon or PVDF membranes or for blocking and dilution of antibodies during immunostaining procedures. Unlike BSA or milk, fish gelatin does not contain IgG or serum proteins that could cross-react with mammalian antibodies.
Ultrafiltration vials with MWCO=10K are recommended for ultrafiltration of antibodies and other proteins larger than 30 kDa. Vials with MWCO=3K can be used for ultrafiltration of proteins larger than 10 kDa. Ultrafiltration can be used to rapidly and easily remove small molecules such dyes, biotin, Tris, glycerol and glycine from antibody solutions, or to concentrate antibodies prior to conjugation.
Activated Charcoal Decontamination Bags retain ethidium bromide, GelRed™ and GelGreen™ efficiently in a convenient bag for decontamination of used gel staining solutions. Each bag has a total capacity of at least 10 mg ethidium bromide.
Mini glass tubes offer higher sensitivity than plastic tubes when used with Biotium’s AccuLite™ Mini-Fluorometers.
