Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that bind to the 50S ribosomal subunit and inhibit protein synthesis

Mode of Action: Inhibits protein synthesis (elongation) at the level of transpeptidation (aminoacyl translocation A-site to P-site). Antimicrobial spectrum: Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.
This is an antimicrobial substance produced by the growth of certain strains of Streptomyces erythreus. It is a mixture consisting largely of erythromycin A with lesser amounts of erythromycins B and C.
