Amoxicillin is a moderate-spectrum, β-lactam antibiotic and antibacterial agent against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
- White crystalline powder
Amoxicillin is one of the most common antibiotics prescribed for children
Amoxicillin is used to study the synthesis of bacterial cell walls at the level of peptidoglycan polymer chain cross-linking involving bacterial transpeptidase. It inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls and also inhibits cross-linkage between the linear peptidoglycan polymer chains that make up a major component of the cell walls of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
It is used to study the oxygen dependent antimicrobial systems of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNLs), the risk of resistance development in Helicobacter pylorI, and various dosing strategies against Streptococcus pneumoniae and Pneumococcal pneumonia.
