2-Methylisothiazolone (MIT) are chemical compounds used as highly effective biocidal agents against fungal and bacterial species. They are widely used as a preservative in cosmetic industry, and as a pesticide, e.g. in paints and water tanks.
- UV/Visible Absorbance: A405: 0.002(lit.)
- pH: pH optimum is between pH 5 and 7.5
- Pb: 1 ppm(lit.)
2-Methylisothiazolone (MIT) shows a broad efficiency spectrum against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria as well as yeast and fungi. It can be used alone or in combination with bromo-nitro-dioxane. In contrasts to sodium azide MIT is not mutagenic, is considerably less toxic and performs outstanding biocidic properties at low application concentrations.
MIT is used to study the effects of tyrosine phosphorylation on focal adhesion kinase (FAK) activity in the development of neural axons and dendrites.
Soluble in water, methanol and ethanol (96%).
