γ-Methacryloxypropyl-trimethoxysilane is used in organometallic reagents, organosilicon and trialkoxysilanes. 3-(Trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate has been used to develop an effective method for synthesizing magnetite/polymer colloidal composite microspheres with controllable variations in size and shape of the nanostructures and desirable interfacial chemical functionalities. 3-(Trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate has also been used to carry out the synthesis of hybrid materials possessing zinc oxide nanoparticles encapsulated in core-shell polymer particles having poly(methyl methacrylate) core and chitosan shell (PMMA-CS/ZnO) via an emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization.
Insoluble in water, reacts with water.
γ-Methacryloxypropyl-trimethoxysilane has been used to covalently link polyacrylamide gels to glass plates. Gels cast in this way do not lift from the glass plate as a result of shrinking or swelling due to pH gradient formation during isoelectric focusing. Also the gel will remain attached to the glass plate during staining procedures. This product can also be used to attach cells, microscopic sections, and total organs to slides and other glass surfaces for in situ hybridization purposes. The attachment was faster and considerably more durable than using poly-L-lysine or other protein systems.
