N-Acetyl-L-cysteine
Supplier: BACHEM AMERICAS INC
Synonyms:
Acetylcysteine, N-Acetyl-3-mercaptoalanine, NAC, (R)-(+)-N-Acetylcysteine, (R)-2-Acetamido-3-mercaptopropanoic acid, Ac-Cys-OH, N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, LNAC
Sequence: Ac-Cys-OH
Synonym(s): NAC
NAC induced apoptosis in rat and human smooth muscle cells and serves as an efficient substrate for the rat liver microsomal glutathione transferase with 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene as second substrate. The conjugate with phenethyl isothiocyanate induces apoptosis predominantly in growth-promoted cells, which leads to the assumption that this conjugate inhibits lung carcinogenesis. Furthermore, NAC has been found to act as a specific inhibitor of TGF-β signaling targeting different components of the TGF-β signaling machinery. Bachem also offers the dimer of NAC, DiNAC (E-2965).
